The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has revised the floodplain maps which document the location and elevations of the 1% chance floodplains. These maps are a part of the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) which is used to determine flood insurance rates for properties located within flood hazard areas. The Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 made changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) so the rates more accurately reflect the real risk of flooding. Clemmons is a member of the NFIP, therefore Clemmons’ residents qualify for a discounted rate on their flood insurance.
